Franz Budig (born March 25, 1870 in Porstendorf near Mährisch Trübau ; † January 3, 1927 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( Christian Social Party , German Christian Social People's Party ) and farmer . Between 1907 and 1911 he was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives , from 1913 a member of the Moravian State Parliament and from 1920 a member of the Czechoslovak House of Representatives .

Life

Franz Budig attended the elementary school and the community school and subsequently served in the medical department No. 6 in Olomouc . He worked as a farmer in Porstendorf (now part of the town of Moravská Třebová ) and stood in the Reichsrat elections in 1907 as a candidate for the Christian Social Party in the constituency of Mährisch-Trübau-Zwittau-Iglau (Moravia 18, German). He achieved a relative majority with around 29 percent of the votes in the first ballot and was able to prevail in the runoff election with 57 percent against the Social Democrat Ignaz Jarmer . This made him the only Christian social representative from Moravia. Budig tried to defend his seat in the Reichsrat election in 1911 and was again able to achieve a relative majority of 43 percent in the first ballot. In the run-off election, however, he was just barely defeated by the candidate of the German Agrarian Party, Karl Schürl , with 49.4 percent . From 1913 he worked for the Christian Social Party in the Moravian Landtag as a member of the electoral district III of the general electorate. After the collapse of the monarchy, he entered the Czechoslovak Chamber of Deputies in 1920 as a candidate for the unified German list. From 1925 he represented the Christian Social Party in parliament. In addition to his parliamentary activities, Budig was the head of the Porstendorf community and headed the Christian-Social German-Moravian Farmers' Union. In 1914 he founded a consumer association in Porstendorf.
