Franz D. Lucas

Franz D. Lucas (born March 4, 1921 in Glogau , Province of Silesia , † July 9, 1998 in London ) was a German businessman and historian.

Life

The son of the rabbi and historian Leopold Lucas had to break off his studies at the University of Königsberg in 1938 and emigrated to Bolivia . There he later founded an important trading company.

In 1983 he moved to London. His main interest was now the work of his father, who died in 1943 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp, and the history and work of learned German Jewry. In 1972 he was awarded the Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize , one of the most important German science prizes . The prize is awarded annually by the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . Lucas became an honorary senator of the University of Tübingen and was an active member of the board of trustees of the Lucasschen Foundation until his death .
