Franz Grünewald

Franz Grünewald (* 17th century; † 18th century Ortisei in Val Gardena ) was a South Tyrolean sculptor .

He lived at the Nudrëi farm in Ortisei. It is known that he “attended the Academy in Vienna for 6 years at the end of the last [18th] century ”. He formed “after his return home, so to speak, a new school for the Christ carvers; For almost a century, the Christ di Fronz'sch (after the Viennese idiom of the first name of this teacher) were the most sought-after in France, and this term is still used by some of the descendants of this master.
