Stuart Blair Donaldson is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician .

Life

Donaldson's mother is the SNP MP in the Scottish Parliament Maureen Watt . He grew up in Aberdeenshire and attended Durris Primary School and Banchory Academy . Donaldson then studied at the University of Glasgow .

Political career

After Donaldson's party colleague Dennis Robertson , who ran unsuccessfully in the 2010 general election in the constituency of West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine , won a seat in the Scottish Parliament in the 2011 general election, he did not stand in the 2015 general election . Instead, the party placed Donaldson, just 23, in the constituency that Liberal Democrat Robert Smith had represented in the British House of Commons since its inception in 1997 . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, Donaldson clearly won the mandate with a 41.6% share of the vote and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the early general election in 2017, Paterson was defeated by Conservative Andrew Bowie and subsequently left the House of Commons.
