Franz Guggisberg (born September 27, 1926 in Derendingen , † June 19, 2001 in Binningen ) was a Swiss politician. From 1974 to 1991 he was the first land clerk in the canton of Basel-Landschaft .

Youth and education

Franz Guggisberg was the son of Albert, a farmer, von Englisberg , a tanner born in Derendingen and Anna. He grew up on his parents' farm in Derendingen as the second oldest son with four siblings. He attended the primary and district school in Derendingen and after graduation he entered the commercial school of the canton of Solothurn , which he graduated with a diploma. This was followed by a two-and-a-half year internship at Solothurner Handelsbank. From 1948 he continued his education at the École Supérieure du Canton de Neuchâtel with a high school diploma in 1949. From 1949 to 1958 he studied law at the University of Bern and the University of Vienna . After completing his studies, he trained as an advocate and notary in the canton of Solothurn from 1958 to 1961 .

Career

From 1960 to 1962 Guggisberg worked at the Federal Social Insurance Office in Bern . In 1962 he became an adjunct in the financial control of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . In 1968 Guggisberg took up the post of second land clerk in the canton of Basel-Landschaft , and in 1974 the district administrator elected him first land clerk . He performed this role of Secretary General of the Government and District Administrator until his retirement in October 1991. From 1979 to 1984 he also worked for the Constitutional Council.

As a member of the army, Guggisberg served in the cavalry and artillery. He attained the rank of captain in military justice and later became an examining magistrate of Divisional Court 4.

Franz Guggisberg lived in Münchenstein from 1968 to 1977 and in Reinach from 1977 to 2001.
