Franz Gustav Kollmann (born August 18, 1934 in Füssen ) is a German mechanical engineer. He was a professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Franz Gustav Kollmann studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1956, where he received his doctorate in 1961 ( experimental and theoretical studies on the critical speeds of liquid-filled hollow bodies ). Before that, he had already worked in industry from 1960, where he held various management positions until 1975. From 1976 he was professor for machine elements at the TU Braunschweig and from 1982 professor for machine elements and machine acoustics at the TH Darmstadt. In 2000 he retired . He was visiting professor at Cornell University in 1985 .

After his retirement, Kollmann was involved in the digital edition of the works of Robert Musil , among other things , and published on Musil and his mathematical work. He is an expert in the field of machine acoustics and, among other things, dealt with the numerical simulation of the inelastic behavior of metallic materials. He has been a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz since 1991 and an honorary doctorate from the TU Chemnitz since 1994 . He is also a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) .
