Franz Heffner OPraem (also called Canon Franz Heffner ) (* in the 17th century in Dittwar near Tauberbischofsheim ; † around 1700) belonged to the order of the Premonstratensians in the Oberzell monastery alongside Gottfried Hammerich .

Life

In 1657 Franz Heffner enrolled at the University of Würzburg with a major in "Logicus". He qualified as a licentiate in theology and worked scientifically for several years until 1677 in the Ilbenstadt Abbey , where he was also prior. After he returned to his own convent, he became pastor of Acholshausen , later of Hochstadt and finally of Gerlachsheim ( Holy Cross Church ). Franz Heffner made a name for himself as a theologian and preacher. First, some theological theses were published by him. His extensive collections of sermons also found literary expression. The first edition of the two-volume work Concionator extemporalis: Oder Eilfertiger Prediger appeared in 1691. Within a short time these sermons, written in German, were repeatedly reprinted. In the editions of 1693 and 1695 Heffner is said to have published an extensive poem (ode) about Gottfried Hammerich in Latin. The collection of sermons Concionator extemporalis continuatus (Continued Eilfertiger Preacher) received further strong attention . Heffner wrote this book when he was pastor of Gerlachsheim. It was first published in 1698, followed by further editions in 1710 and 1720. Almost all of Franz Heffner's works are dedicated to Abbot Gottfried Hammerich , who also granted permission to print.
