Franz Hoffmann (building contractor)

Franz Xaver Hoffmann (born May 29, 1844 in Mannheim ; † January 16, 1920 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was a German building contractor .

Hoffmann was a son of the Ludwigshafen builder and mayor Joseph Hoffmann and brother of the builder and mayor Wendelin Hoffmann . He attended the trade school in Mannheim and after completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and stone carver in 1863/1864, the building trade school in Holzminden . In 1866 he became a construction manager for the Baden State Railways . In 1870, he joined his father's company, Joseph Hoffmann & Söhne in Ludwigshafen, as a partner and director , which, under his management, was converted into a limited liability company in 1913 and became one of the city's largest employers. He was director of the Gesellschaftshaus Ludwigshafen AG and from 1900 a member of the supervisory board of the Ludwigshafen brewery . From 1885 until his death, he was a member of the board of the Bavarian construction trade association. He was appointed to the council of commerce by the Bavarian king .

Hoffmann showed civic engagement in a variety of ways. In his early years he founded the House and Landowners Association ; from 1895 to 1899 he was a member of the Ludwigshafen city council. He was a member of the factory council of the Catholic parish of St. Ludwig in Ludwigshafen, 1868 to 1872 captain of the volunteer fire brigade and founder, 1889 to 1901 leader and later honorary leader of the volunteer medical column.
