Franz Josef Hoffmann

Franz Josef Hoffmann (born February 5, 1915 ; died 1992 ) was a German diplomat.

Life

Franz Josef Hoffmann was the son of a manufacturer. He studied law in Königsberg, Münster, Freiburg and Hamburg. On May 1, 1937, he became a member of the NSDAP .

After the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hoffmann joined the Foreign Service in 1950. He began his work abroad in 1951 in London. From 1953 to 1955 he was the deputy director of the diplomatic school of the Foreign Office in Speyer . From 1955 to 1960 he was employed at the Consulate General in New York City and then returned to Bonn, where he became the Secretary of State's office in 1964.

Hoffmann became German ambassador to Ceylon in 1968 and was ambassador to Afghanistan from 1973 to 1979 before retiring.
