Franz Josef of Austria-Tuscany

Franz Josef von Österreich-Toscana (born February 4, 1905 in Vienna , Austria ; † May 9, 1975 in Hernstein ) from the House of Habsburg-Lothringen ( Habsburg-Lothringen-Tuscany line ) was Archduke of Austria.

Life

Franz Josef Karl Leopold Blanka Adelgunde Ignatius Rafael Michael Vero of Austria-Toscana was the fourth son of Archduke Leopold Salvator (1863-1931) (and thus a descendant of Emperor Leopold II ) and of Blanka von Bourbon (1868-1949), daughter of Carlos María de los Dolores de Borbón (1848–1909), who had been Carlos (VII) pretender to the Spanish throne.

Archduke Franz Josef Karl, born on February 4, 1905 in Vienna , was naturalized as Don Francisco Jose Carlos de Habsburgo-Lorena Y Borbon in Spain as early as 1926 . As a professional pilot he had served with the RAF in World War II and had not been married to Marta Aloisia, the daughter of the former Austro-Hungarian Colonel Andreas Baumer and Anna di Locatelli, in London since July 1937 . After the war ended, the couple lived partly in Madrid (Spain) and Berndorf (Lower Austria).

After this marriage was annulled, he married a second time, again not in accordance with house laws, on January 21, 1962 in Zurich Maria Seumig; a daughter sprang from this connection. Franz Joseph Karl founded the Order of the Lily of Navarre , probably in 1955, in order to be able to honor Carlist fighters accordingly. In doing so, he referred to the - actually not documented, but legendarily dated to 1038 - knightly order of St. Mary of the Lily, allegedly by Gracias VI. Supposed to be founded by King of Navarre.

Franz Josef died on May 9, 1975 in Hernstein .
