Franz Leopold

Franz Leopold (born March 26, 1902 in Nikitsch ; † February 7, 1960 in Eisenstadt ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state accounting director in Eisenstadt. Leopold was married and from 1949 to 1959 a member of the Burgenland Landtag . After his death he was buried in Nikitsch.

Leopold was born as the son of the farmer Urban Leopold from Nikitsch and grew up in a Croatian-speaking family. He attended elementary school in Nikitsch and then graduated from the commercial academy in Ödenburg , which he graduated with the Matura in 1922. Leopold entered the service of the Province of Burgenland on June 4, 1923 and was subsequently employed in accounting. After the National Socialists came to power, Leopold was forced to retire in 1938 and then found employment in his home community. In 1941 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht , where he was taken prisoner of war, from which he returned in 1945. From 1945 Leopold returned to the state service and in 1947 became head of state accounting in Eisenstadt. In 1952 he was appointed to the government council.

politics

Leopold was a member of the Croatian Cultural Association and later joined the Patriotic Front . In 1947 he was a co-founder of the Croatian Publishing Association, he also represented the ÖVP between November 4, 1949 and December 19, 1959 in the Burgenland state parliament, where he resigned from his office by waiving his mandate. In addition, Leopold was state finance officer of the ÖVP Burgenland between 1951 and 1960 and from 1954 senior curator of the state mortgage company.
