Franz Obermayr (born May 25, 1952 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician of the Freedom Party of Austria . From 2009 to 2019 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Obermayr was born in Linz in 1952. After finishing school he became politically active and a member of the Austrian Freedom Party. From the European elections in 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament . There he called, among other things, for a tightening of European asylum policy . From November 2012 he was chairman of the European Alliance for Freedom .

After the European elections in Austria in 2019 , he left the European Parliament.

Since 1981 he has been a member of the Corps Frankonia Brünn zu Salzburg and Alemannia Wien zu Linz and belongs to the Corps Germania Munich .

Positions

In the context of demonstrations against a ball event of the Vienna corporation ring in 2012, Obermayr made the statement: "There was a pogrom mood in Vienna", there had been a "drooling hunt" against ball visitors.
