Life

When Franz Otto took over government responsibility in 1555, he had to assure the interim government that had ruled since the death of his father in 1546 that numerous conditions would be complied with. His reign was mainly shaped by the burden of debt on the principality. In 1559 he married Elisabeth Magdalene von Brandenburg , but died of the leaves in the same year . The marriage remained childless.

Franz Otto was buried in the royal crypt in the town church of St. Mary in Celle.
