Franz Plotnarek

Franz Plotnarek (born October 6, 1910 in Vienna ; died March 16, 1943 there ) was an Austrian communist functionary and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .

Life

Plotnarek grew up in his native Vienna and worked as a mechanic. Before joining , he and his wife Anna (1908–1960), b. Fuchs, a fine chemical cleaning shop in Ottakring . Franz Plotnarek and his wife were members of the illegal KPÖ and were active against Austrofascism and National Socialism . On January 31, 1941, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo . He was accused of producing illegal writings and high treason .

On December 15, 1942, Plotnarek was sentenced to death together with Franz Fiala, Anton Tuma, Karl Kompers and Johann Meduna. His execution took place on March 16, 1943 at the Regional Court I in Vienna by guillotine . All other convicts were also executed. His remains were buried in a mass grave at Vienna's central cemetery , but his family still placed a tombstone for him as a final act of resistance. The memorial for "Gruppe 40" was also erected at the central cemetery to commemorate all those who were buried there as victims of the regime.

His daughter Grete, married Machelek, was born in 1932. As a contemporary witness, she tells the fate of her parents in schools.
