Franz Quidenus (born July 6, 1871 in Vienna ; † July 30, 1936 there ), since 1921 Dr. iur., was an Austrian architect and builder and did pioneering work through his tireless efforts to create an infrastructure for automobilism.
Creation and works
Quidenus was born as the son of the city architect Karl Quidenus (1839-1904) and Anna Maria Ifenz (1840-1869). After attending the Stiftsgymnasium Melk , he studied from 1889 at the Technical University of Vienna with Karl Mayreder.
His professional activity up to the beginning of the First World War ranged from architect and senior building officer to court-sworn expert and building appraiser. However, few buildings from this time are documented. One example is the rental house at Servitengasse 8-10 in Vienna's 9th district, Alsergrund, built between 1906 and 1907.
1903 began his membership in the Austrian Automobile Club ; In 1931 he became its president. In the same year he was a founding member of the kk Austrian automobile corps. From 1910 he was an expert on the car industry. After the end of the First World War, he concentrated his activities mainly on the car industry. From 1916 to 1919 he studied law at the University of Vienna , in 1931 he was appointed deputy chairman of the motor vehicle advisory board in the Federal Ministry of Commerce.
Quidenus took part in numerous tenders for important automotive competitions and was one of the first “ gentlemen drivers ” in Austria. He initiated the establishment of the association of court-sworn experts and appraisers in motor vehicles. He wrote numerous reports on the legal situation in road traffic, which were then distributed internationally. He was an advocate of the idea of an organization for the production of traffic safety, which was later realized in the "Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit".
His sons Franz and Karl Quidenus came from his marriage with Anna Schönbichler in 1899, who later also became master builders.
