Franz Schüssele

Franz Schüssele (born August 1952 in Dörlinbach ) is a German musician.

Live and act

Schüssele studied trombone , school music and German literature . He played in the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Freiburg for three years and was active in several jazz ensembles. In addition, Schüssele was a co-founder of the folk music group Gälfiäßler , a group that became known nationwide for original folk music, sometimes played on unusual instruments. Schüssele has a teaching position at the University of Education in Freiburg, where he teaches trombone and chamber music for brass.

In 1983 Schüssele turned to the alphorn and since then has composed numerous pieces of music for the alphorn in a wide variety of settings, for example for alphorn and organ, orchestra, barrel organ or bagpipe . He is also the author of the standard work Alphorn and Hirtenhorn in Europe.

In addition to the alphorn, Schüssele plays rare historical instruments such as the serpent , trumscheit and theremin .
