Franz Schlobach

Franz Schlobach (born February 28, 1824 in Düben , † October 10, 1907 in Leipzig ) was a German entrepreneur, Royal Saxon Commerce Councilor, founder and owner of the Franz Schlobach veneer and sawmills in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg near Leipzig.

Life

Franz Schlobach was born in 1824 as the eighth child of Johann Gottlieb Schlobach (1784–1866), mill owner, and Johanne Christiane Heidenreuter (1793–1880). In 1832 the von Düben family moved to Leipzig . The parents were first tenants, from 1845 owners of the Thomasmühle on the Pleiße opposite the Thomaskirche . After graduating from school in 1838, Schlobach began a commercial apprenticeship in an indigo and dye store in Leipzig, which he completed in 1848. On September 1, 1846, he took over the Böhlitz-Ehrenberger grain and oil mill, which had existed since the 13th century.

On November 13, 1846, Schlobach converted the milling business into a veneer cutting business with trading in wood veneer under the company name Franz Schlobach Furnier- und Sägewerke . Over time, he supplemented hydropower with steam turbines. With the takeover of the mill and the founding of the company, Franz Schlobach initiated the industrial development of Böhlitz-Ehrenberg. As early as 1860, the Schlobach veneer and sawmill was one of the largest in Germany, producing the best-cut veneers. From 1878 to 1883 he was the community leader in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg.

In 1905 Schlobach handed over the factory in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg to the sons Curt, Walter and Georg Schlobach. The following year he was appointed Royal Saxon Commerce Councilor.

Franz Schlobach died in Leipzig on October 10, 1907. He was buried in the family grave of the Schlobach family in Leipzig's southern cemetery.
