Franz Sebastian Nonhardt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Sebastian Nonhardt , also Nonnhardt , (* 1680 ; † 1735 ) was a Jesuit and Catholic controversial theologian who worked in the area of the court of August the Strong in Dresden in the first third of the 18th century . He also worked as a teacher and military chaplain.

In the atmosphere of the city charged by denominational disputes, his main opponent was the archdeacon at the Kreuzkirche, Hermann Joachim Hahn . A controversial theological discussion between Hahn and Nonhardt in the presence of a "high lady" who had converted to the Catholic Church, presumably Henriette von Osterhausen , was initially anonymous from the Lutheran side in Halle in 1722 - Hahn himself? -, published after Hahn's murder in 1726 in Frankfurt and Leipzig with the names of the disputants.

The death of Hahn by Franz Laublers on May 21, 1726 was also blamed on Nonhardt; It was probably Nonhardt who moved Laubler, after Hahn's brief conversion to the Lutheran faith, to return to the Catholic Church. During the subsequent unrest in the population, the Catholic clergy, including Nonhardt, temporarily fled the city.
