Life

Slawik was born into a working-class family and attended the federal high school in Berndorf after primary school . Slawik then studied German and physical exercise at the University of Vienna , although he had to finance his studies himself after the early death of his mother and his father's incapacity for work. In 1958 Slawik passed the teaching examination and then taught at the grammar school in Krems an der Donau . In addition, he studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1971 " sub auspiciis praesidentis". Then Slawik moved to Schwechat, where he took over the pedagogical management of the branch of the Bruck Federal High School. After the establishment of an independent grammar school in 1976, Slawik was appointed its director. Slawik took over the management of the Renner Institute in 1977 and carried out the renovation and furnishing of the institute building that had been decided upon by his predecessor. Slawik involved the regional offices more strongly than before in the implementation of seminars and thus created a wide range of local and regional educational events. At the same time he intensified the scientific work and the production of publications in the head office of the institute. In 1980 Slawik resigned from the Renner Institute and returned to Schwechat as director in 1980. During his time as director of the Renner Institute, Slawik had also passed the teaching examinations for the subjects of psychology and philosophy.

Slawik was a councilor in Schwechat between 1975 and 1985. He was elected to the Lower Austrian Landtag on January 28, 1982, to which he initially belonged until May 15, 1986. After that, Slawik was a member of the Lower Austrian provincial government from November 17, 1988 to December 2, 1991 and moved back to the state parliament on November 17, 1988. There he was club chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club from 1988 to 1991 and left the state parliament on December 2, 1991.

In honor of Franz Slawik, the so-called "Dr. Franz Slawik Symposium" takes place every two years in the town hall of Schwechat .
