life and career

Franz Solar was born in 1882 and represented his home country in the qualifying competitions for the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games . In the qualification held on April 6th at the square of the Vienna AC , Solar won the Pentathlon , came second in the Greek-style discus throw and third in the normal discus throw . Then he traveled with a 31-strong Austrian athlete delegation to Athens , where the interludes took place in the Panathinaiko Stadium from April 22nd to May 2nd, 1906 . There, the 182 cm tall and about 82 kg heavy Solar took part in the shot put and stone throwing on April 27th . While his result in the shot put is no longer known, the then around 24-year-old took 24th place in stone throwing. He also took part in the competitions that took place from April 25th to 28th as a wrestler , but did not achieve any notable success as such.

Solar also took part in the pentathlon held on April 27 and 28 , which was based on the ancient Pentathlon. There he was by far the worst athlete in the field of 26 participants and only finished 24th in the final ranking because two other athletes ( Martin Sheridan and André Désfarges ) had injured themselves and therefore withdrew from the competitions early. At the end he took part in the tug of war alongside Rudolf Arnold , Henri Baur , Karl Höltl , Leopold Lahner , Rudolf Lindmayer , Josef Steinbach and Josef Wittmann on April 30th . Despite a 2-0 defeat against Germany in the first round, the Austrians qualified for the final round, in which, however, after another 2-0 defeat, this time against Sweden , it was finally over and Austria finished this competition in fourth place. After that, little is known about solar anymore; in 1907 he is said to have taken second place in the Greco-Roman class with no weight limit at the unofficial European wrestling championships in Vienna .

After that, Solar's trail gets lost, although today nothing is known about his further life.
