Franz Spemann (born January 30, 1877 in Stuttgart , † March 1, 1956 in Sindelfingen ) was a German writer and from 1914 to 1934 secretary of the German Christian Student Association .

Franz Spemann's father was the publisher Johann Wilhelm Spemann . Franz Spemann was the fifth of six children. His mother was Maria Spemann, b. Adriani (January 23, 1849– February 27, 1917), she was his father's second wife. His oldest brother was the biologist and Nobel Prize winner Hans Spemann .

Franz Spemann was married to Friederike Hertha Karoline von Wrangell on July 21, 1906.

Career

Between the 19th and 20th centuries, Spemann studied music in Berlin, art history in Heidelberg and theology at the University of Halle . He was a literary historian, author, preacher and former pastor of the Evangelical Church. Between 1901 and 1904 there was an exchange of letters with the theologian Martin Kähler .

From 1914 Spemann was secretary of the German Christian Student Union (DCSV). He dedicated his book Theological Confessions in Dresden in the summer of 1929 in Dresden to Karl Heim , professor of theology at the University of Tübingen, Edmund Jeremias, State Finance Councilor in Dresden and Paul Zander, senior doctor at the Elisabethstift hospital in Darmstadt , as his friends. In 1932 he dedicated his work to Karl Heim and the theology of his time to Reinold von Thadden “in grateful friendship”. In 1949 Hanns Lilje published a book in which Franz Spemann gave a testimony to his meeting with the theologian Martin Kähler.

As a DCSV functionary, Franz Spemann confessed to National Socialism.
