Franz Vollrath Buttstedt
Franz Vollrath Buttstedt (born April 2, 1735 in Erfurt , † May 7, 1814 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) was a composer and organist in Weikersheim and Rothenburg ob der Tauber; here he held the post of "Director Musici". In addition to numerous organ preludes, he composed sacred vocal music for the festivals of the church year , not just for one but for several annual cycles. Solo concerts, symphonies and chamber music are also part of his extensive repertoire, which has largely been lost. His chorale book was written between 1768 and 1774 . The second part of the melody of the song “Who knows how close my end is to me” (Evangelisches Gesangbuch 530) is taken from it.
