Franz Wiesmann (born January 16, 1888 in Vienna ; † January 28, 1959 there ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

Wiesmann studied at the Technical University in Vienna with Karl König and Karl Mayreder from 1907 to 1913. He then worked as a freelance architect in Baden near Vienna , and from 1914 onwards in the Vienna City Planning Department. He stayed there through all political upheavals until his retirement after World War II.

meaning

Franz Wiesmann built numerous urban residential complexes in Vienna between the wars. Its design language was inconspicuous and adapted to the Viennese municipal building style . In the 1930s, he switched to a sometimes extremely sober and functional construction method.
