Franz Xaver Bucher (painter, 1899)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Xaver Bucher (born December 10, 1899 in Fridingen an der Donau , † March 1, 1959 there ) was a German draftsman , painter and book illustrator .

Life

Franz Xaver Bucher came from the Fridingen artist family Bucher, a family in which artistic activity was part of everyday life. His nephew, born in 1929, was the Danube valley painter Hans Bucher († 2002).

The “Eck-Xaver”, as the residents of his hometown Fridingen an der Donau called him during their lifetime, showed an outstanding artistic talent early on; however, he was denied appropriate support and training.

After attending the teachers' college in Rottweil , he became a primary school teacher . He had retained a lifelong attachment to his hometown of Fridingen, even though his teaching profession took him to various places of work in the Black Forest , in the Unterland or in Upper Swabia for many decades .

Bucher developed a remarkably high level of technical skill and artistic productivity. Above all as a virtuoso quick draftsman and caricaturist, he made a great impression on his respective environment. He was a personality of a special stamp, a sensitive person, vulnerable and inflammable.

In 1959, Xaver Bucher died of a fall on the narrow stairs of his parents' house at the age of 60.

Works

Regardless of client expectations or the artistic trends of his time, he created an impressive graphic work that is characterized by stylistic uniqueness and often also by thematic idiosyncrasy. His works, which often have a lyrical character, draw on the strong ties to the local landscape and village community. He found his motifs in the places of his childhood as well as in his various places of activity in the world of farmers and craftsmen. He portrayed distinctive and original contemporaries, designed inconspicuous angles and scenes with a lyrical gaze and often left memories of places and people that have long since disappeared and forgotten. They radiate the rich and intense perception of the artist and raise him above the level of a local painter . He has painted many landscapes, pictures from rural life, quiet corners and familiar alleys in his beloved Fridingen and in other places of his work in watercolor and body color.

Appreciation

His pictures, most of which he had given away to friends and acquaintances, were brought together in the Scharf Eck artist's house in Fridingen, which opened as a museum in 2007 , and are in a permanent exhibition. The museum, which is mainly dedicated to the life and work of the Danube valley painter Hans Bucher, provides insights into the Bucher family of artists, who lived in the “Scharf Eck” for three generations, on three floors.
