Franz Xaver Knapp
Franz Xaver Knapp (born September 3, 1809 in Tachov ; † September 16, 1883 in Chernivtsi ) was an Austrian painter, illustrator and piano teacher who worked in Chernivtsi.
Around 1874 Franz Xaver Knapp illustrated the album Illustrierte Bukowina with 18 lithographs based on his watercolors, which depict many places in the Duchy of Bukowina, such as Chernivtsi, Suczawa , Vatra Dornei , Lopuschna (Wyschnyzja) and Storoschynez . The album was dedicated to Count Karl von Rothkirch-Panthen , who was the state president of Bukowina until 1860. He also created a series of large-format pictures with views from the Bukovina.
Knapp also worked as a portraitist, his portraits show, among others, Sylvester Morariu-Andriewicz , Heraclios Porumbescu-Golembiovski and Niculae Picu.
