Karl von Rothkirch-Panthen
Karl Graf von Rothkirch-Panthen (born December 2, 1807 in Falkenau, Grottkau district ( Upper Silesia ), † March 31, 1870 in Prague ) was a Bohemian-Austrian politician, administrative officer and Oberstlandmarschall as well as governor of Bohemia .
Life
Karl was a member of the Austrian branch of the Silesian noble family Rothkirch and the son of General Count Leopold von Rothkirch and Panthen (1769–1839) and his wife, Countess Anna von Pötting and Persing (1778–1820). In 1833 he married Countess Barbara Swéerts-Spork (1810–1873) in Kolinec , the couple remained childless.
Rothkirch entered the civil service and became treasurer and secret council , 1842 district chief of Čáslav , 1846–48 of Pilsen . He rejected the position of governor of Bohemia proposed to him in 1848 because of the strong Czech opposition in the Prague Pentecost uprising . In 1850 he became district president of Eger . From 1857 to 1860 he acted as president of the Bukovina , where he did not agree to the unification of the state administration with Galicia . In 1861 he became a member of the Bohemian state parliament for the party of large estates loyal to the constitution . At the same time he was a member of the Reichsrat from 1861 to 1863 .
Rothkirch was from November 9, 1863 to September 30, 1866 Oberstlandmarschall of the Kingdom of Bohemia and thus chairman of the Bohemian government, the state committee . He tried to maintain a certain neutrality between centralists and federalists, thereby alienating both sides. After the German War in 1866 he became governor of Bohemia, but retired in 1867.
