Franz Xaver Schöpfer (politician)
Franz Xaver Schöpfer (born May 23, 1754 in St. Pölten ; † March 29, 1828 there ) was an Austrian politician and third mayor of St. Pölten.
Life
Franz Xaver Schöpfer was born on May 23, 1754 in St. Pölten as the son of long-time member of the Inner Council Johann Karl Schöpfers. From him he took over the gingerbread trade , the wax shop and some houses in 1787 . Over the years, he acquired other properties in St. Pölten and Melk . When his first wife died, his fortune had already grown to 62,305 guilders .
Schöpfer became a magistrate in 1792, and two years later he was appointed mayor. During his 34-year tenure, the city was occupied by French troops twice, in the third and fifth coalition wars.
On March 29, 1828 Schöpfer died in office in St. Pölten. This 34-year term of office is the longest of all St. Pölten mayors to date.
