description

Marrubium alysson is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 40 cm. The stems are densely hairy, woolly and tomentose, unbranched or provided with ascending to upright, flower-bearing branches. The leaves are fan-shaped, long wedge-shaped at the base and strongly notched towards the tip. The leaf surface is covered with white woolly hairs, but the upper side is often bald.

The inflorescence consists of pseudo whorls with up to twelve flowers . Pre-leaves are missing or very small. The calyx-tube is 4.5 to 5.5 mm long, indistinctly ribbed and densely hairy woolly-felted. It ends in five calyx teeth; these are about 3 mm long, lanceolate, rise above the crown and are 1 to 1.5 mm wide at the base. When the fruit is ripe, they become stiff and stand out in a star shape. The crown is purple in color and hairy on the outside.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

The number of chromosomes is n = 13.
