Franz Xaver Striebel (born February 21, 1821 in Mindelheim ; † February 21, 1871 in Munich ) was a German genre and history painter.

As the son of a baker, Franz Xaver Striebel was destined for his father's trade, but began studying at the Royal Polytechnic in Augsburg. He later decided to work as a painter and studied from May 27, 1840 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich under Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld and Heinrich Maria von Hess .

After graduating, he worked on landscape painting . He went on a study trip to Italy . Back in Munich he turned to genre and history painting. He preferred comic subjects from popular life.

He died on the day of his 50th birthday.
