Franz Zoller

Franz Zoller (born September 1, 1912 in Bludenz ; † June 11, 2002 in Rankweil ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and ÖBB official. From 1954 to 1969 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending elementary school in Bludenz for five years, Zoller switched to the community school in Bludenz for three years. In 1927 he began an apprenticeship as an electrician, which he completed in 1930 with the journeyman's examination. At the same time he attended the commercial training school for three years. He was subsequently employed as an electrician, was unemployed for a long period in 1934 and initially only found short-term jobs or managed to get by with seasonal work. He was drafted into service during World War II in February 1942, and was subsequently in American and British captivity until February 1946. After his return from service, he joined the Austrian Federal Railways in Bludenz in 1946 .

Politics and functions

Zoller became a member of the Bludenz Workers 'Gymnastics and Sports Club in 1924 and joined the Socialist Workers' Youth in 1926 . He was active as a functionary from 1927 and as a women's gymnastics supervisor of the Bludenz Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Club from 1930. In 1932 he took over the position of regional women’s gymnastics supervisor for the Vorarlberg Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Club, and in the interwar period he was a member of the Republican Protection Association . Zoller was a member of the Social Democratic Party on January 1, 1932, and became a member of the Revolutionary Socialists after the party was banned in 1934.

After his return from the Second World War, Zoller became a member of the provisional city council of Bludenz in June 1946. From 1947 to 1953 he was city party chairman of the SPÖ Bludenz and at the district level from 1953 to 1969 as district party chairman of the SPÖ Bludenz. At the state level he held the function of a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg from 1953 to 1969, he was also a member of the state party control of the SPÖ Vorarlberg.

As a member of the Bludenz constituency, he represented the SPÖ between October 29, 1954 and October 28, 1969 in the Vorarlberg state parliament. There he was a member of the Legal and Immunity Committee and a member of the Education Committee.

Zoller was chairman of the Bludenz Workers' Home Association from 1953 to 1998, and from 1947 to 1954 he was the union representative of the ÖBB train transport agency in Bludenz. He was also a member of the “Free School Children's Friends” association.

Private

Franz Zoller was born the son of master shoemaker Franz Zoller (1877-1919) from Silz and his wife Rosina Zoller (1879-1929), née Schlierenzauer, from Arzl in Bludenz. He married Mathilde Purtscher (1904–1992) on February 24, 1940 and had two daughters and a son, who were born in 1932, 1942 and 1947.
