Franz Zwilgmeyer

Franz Zwilgmeyer (born July 8, 1901 in Braunschweig ; † May 25, 1995 there ) was a German lawyer and sociologist .

Life

Zwilgmeyer came from an important Brunswick family. After attending school, he completed his studies in law and political science as well as philosophy and sociology in Tübingen , Berlin , Jena , Braunschweig and Leipzig , where he was awarded a Dr. jur. received his doctorate . Then he entered the civil service.

He was dismissed by the National Socialists in 1933 as a judicial assessor at the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court, along with other colleagues who did not conform to party and ideology, in order to make room for Nazi lawyers who were loyal to the line. Zwilgmeyer then worked as a lawyer and notary in Braunschweig during the National Socialist era .

From 1948 he worked as a lecturer in sociology at the Adolf Reichwein University of Celle (later the Lower Saxony University of Education in Osnabrück), and since 1955 as a professor. In 1968 he retired . His main areas of work were questions of cultural sociology in relation to education, law, language, art and historical personality types. In his work he incorporated the results of research on symbols and myths, art history, philosophy and depth psychology.
