Franziska Rettenbacher (born June 17, 1938 in Hamburg ; † May 18, 2019 ) was a German costume keeper. She has been the director of the Simbach am Inn local history museum since 1987 .

Career

Rettenbacher was born in Hamburg. Her mother Theodolinde Schreiber, who came from the Rottal, was employed by a shipping line there after studying. After the early death of her father, she first came to Simbach for care. The mother followed at the end of the Second World War and moved with her daughter into a house in the racecourse settlement. Shortly after finishing school, she met her future husband Karl, with whom she raised four children.

She had learned the art of gold embroidery from her mother . With the revival of the traditional costume clubs and the return to the old robes, especially the gold bonnets from the Passau area, Rettenbacher received numerous orders for restoration or new production. In 1970 she joined the Inntaler Simbach Trachtenverein , in the Dreiflüsse Trachtengau Passau she was responsible for the subject “Tracht” for 23 years.

In 1982 she was appointed costume advisor for the district of Lower Bavaria south of the Danube. On her initiative, a costume advice center was set up in the Massing open-air museum . After she had already guided visitors through the old local history museum in the town hall of Simbach from 1979 onwards, she was appointed director of the former rent and tax office in 1987 after it reopened.

Rettenbacher has received several awards for her decades of commitment to maintaining customs and costumes in her home country. She came out in public with two books on the art of gold embroidery.
