The monastery, consecrated to St. Franciscus Seraphicus , was founded in 1610 by Ernst von Bayern , Elector and Archbishop of Cologne and Bishop of Freising . First it was a hospice , from 1621 a convent within the Bavarian Franciscan Province ( Bavaria ), which belonged to the stricter reform branch of the Reformates in the Franciscan order . It was located in the eastern part of the old town , north of the Untere Hauptstrasse bordered by the Weizengasse and the Untere Graben. In the monastery there was a study house for the offspring of the Bavarian Franciscan Province, which in 1685 was recognized by the order's leadership as Studium generale beyond the province; there, from 1691 to 1713, the diocese of Freising also trained its priest candidates. The cathedral preachers at Freising Cathedral also came from the Franciscan monastery.

The monastery was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization . The monastery buildings were demolished by 1836. In 1842–44, a girls' school (today St. Korbinian primary school) with a church was built on the site using the former walls surrounding the monastery. The ground floor of the building served as a fire brigade retreat. Later, a new fire station, today's city library , was built on the site .
