Wearing (also wife - or wife wearing ) is a sport in which couples of one man and one woman , there are races by a 253.5 meter long course deny. The couple may only carry one belt with them and only move while the woman is being carried by the man. The world record was 55.5 seconds in July 2011.

Inspired this sport is through a local legend the village Sonkajärvi in Finland, after the robber Herkko Rosvo-Rinkainen end of the 19th century have kidnapped in the surrounding villages women, which had been a common practice at that time (see also: Abduction of the Bride ) .

Team competitions and sprints

Variants of woman carrying are that

  • Team competition with the same route conditions, but three men take turns carrying a woman.
  • Sprint where the race track is 100 meters long and a single moat in the way. Couples who fall down during the sprint also receive a time penalty .

The world championship in women's carrying has been held in Sonkajärvi since 1992. In 2011 it was held for the 16th time.
