activity

Frauke Beeck's artistic activity includes spray paintings, murals, the Wümme calendar, collages, installations, objects and the production of funbags. Her work takes up topics from pop culture and consumer society. Since 1996 the artistic exchange between Germany and China has played an increasingly important role in her work. She is increasingly involved as a curator for exhibition projects by Chinese artists in Germany.

Spray pictures: Frauke Beeck uses a spray technique specially developed by her for her spray pictures. She mainly uses transparent acrylic glass, which is processed from both sides, which creates the impression of space and depth. She works with stencils, whereby an abstraction of the represented forms is achieved. Both in terms of the choice of motifs and in terms of their formal language, Frauke Beeck's pictures from the last few years are based on the tradition of classic Pop Art . Clear, strong, bright colors, high-contrast color combinations and motifs from everyday life are characteristic of this. Her work is characterized by the mix of stylistic elements of street art and graffiti art on the one hand and the choice of traditional subjects borrowed from realistic painting on the other. By merging the established motifs of painting and street art, a unique, unconventional style is created. She often uses photographs as templates, but also images from books, magazines or video stills she shot herself. In various series, she turns to different thematic complexes, such as bamboo variations, shop window design, music concerts, landscapes, animal portraits, political events or travel impressions. In a series of images, the artist combines text and image by adding a brief train of thought or a comment under the sprayed image in addition and not always explanatory. These pictures appear like newspaper pictures with the accompanying caption. But here text and image are in an exciting, sometimes absurd relationship to one another.

Murals: In 2006, in collaboration with Tobias Kröger, a work on the wall at Heinrichstrasse 10 in Bremen was created as part of the Bremen program “Art in Public Space”. In 2007, Frauke Beeck realized the mural “America” in the foyer of the freight yard for the play “America” by the Bremen Theater, staged by Johann Kresnik based on the novel by Franz Kafka, which was performed in the Bremen freight yard.

Wümmekalender: Frauke Beeck has been designing the Wümmekalender since 1994, which mainly consists of pictures of the Wümme region and has been published since 1974. In recent years the calendar has been dedicated to a specific topic, such as B. "Greetings from the province" (2014), "From Wümme to Huangpu" (2013), "Bird's Eye View" (2012) or "Watercourses" (2011). Over the years, various artistic techniques have been used, from pencil drawings to watercolors to mixed media - various reproduction techniques have been used in this context.

Funbags: Bags of candy or chips from all over the world are recycled into small plastic bags. The funbags are sold in several galleries and museums and have been presented by them at art fairs in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Innsbruck and Karlsruhe since 2004.

Artist exchange with Chinese artists: Frauke Beeck has become increasingly active in the curatorial field in recent years, with a focus on the artistic exchange between Germany and China. Her first Chinese solo exhibition took place in 1998 at the Goethe-Institut Beijing. Exhibition projects were realized in Bremen and Beijing in 2000 and 2001. Bremen / Göttingen and Shenyang followed in 2006/2007. In 2013, Frauke Beeck exhibited in Beidaihe, China, as the first western female artist, at the invitation of the Chinese classical artist Mosheng Mei.
