Katerina Vatsella

Katerina Vatsella (* 1952 in Athens ) is an art historian and exhibition curator .

Live and act

Katerina Vatsella studied art history , archeology and church history at the University of Zurich from 1973 to 1982 . She obtained her licentiate from Emil Maurer on the subject of The Image of Woman from Ernst Ludwig Kirchner . From 1979 to 1985 she was an assistant at the art history seminar at the University of Zurich and worked as an art critic for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Die Weltwoche . From 1986 to September 1989 she was the curator of the Jacobs Suchard Museum on the cultural history of coffee in Zurich .

In 1990 she moved to Bremen and opened an office for art projects, with which she works as a freelance curator for museums, institutions and companies. Since 1991 she has been in charge of changing exhibitions at the Sparkasse Bremen several times a year . From 1992 to 1994 she had lectureships in the industrial design department at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences .

In 1996 she was at the University of Bremen with the work Edition MAT. The emergence of an art form. Daniel Spoerri , Karl Gerstner and the multiple under Michael Müller and Thomas Deecke did their doctorate .

From July 1999 to September 2000 she was acting director of the art collections Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum and Ludwig Roselius Museum in Böttcherstraße Bremen. She was the initiator of the neon sign with the logo of the University of Bremen installed on the Teerhof guest house in 2008 . Since 2003 she has been curator of the “Bremen Art Scholarship” for visual artists from partner cities of Bremen under the sponsorship of the Bremen Citizenship and the Bremer Heimstiftung .

In 2012/2013 she was teaching curatorial practice at the University of Bremen and at the University of the Arts Bremen .

Since 2013 she has curated exhibitions of the "Artdocks" in Schuppen 1 in Überseestadt in Bremen.

She is a member of BPW Germany and was the 1st chairwoman of the BPW Club Bremen from 1996 to 1998.
