Fred Turnheim

Fred Turnheim (born September 8, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist and worked for ORF from 1975 to October 2011 . Since October 2011 he has been working as a freelance journalist for Austrian and German media.

Turnheim was editor-in-chief of the magazine An Impulse and Arguments , which was published by the Evangelical Press Association and the Evangelical Academy in Austria until 1975. In 1984, together with the ORF journalist Hans Preiner, he proposed the Prof. Claus Gatterer Prize , which was created by the Austrian Journalists Club (ÖJC) the following year .

In 1975 he joined the ORF. First in the then federal state editorial office for the program “Austria Bild”. 1981 joined the parliamentary editorial office, there he became deputy head of department for the program "Hohes Haus". In 1988 he took on responsibility for the "Wochenschau" and the "Hello Austria - Hello Vienna" program. At the same time he was head of the service of the ORF news program " Zeit im Bild ". In the area of ​​the newsreel editorial team, the “Annual Review of the Current Service” was also created. In 1995 he became head of the service of the science magazine "Modern Times". The “Wochenschau” was also broadcast on 3sat, on Lauda Air planes and to the Austrian UN soldiers on the Golan. In 1997 he became a member of the planning group for the daily science program “ nano ” on 3sat . He introduced the decentralized editorial management in 3sat. From 2001 to 2011 he was again a member of the editorial team of Zeit im Bild and headed the editorial team for new media at ZIB. He is currently a freelance journalist in Berlin and Vienna.

In 1988 Turnheim became executive president of the ÖJC and in 1990 it was elected president.

He teaches at the Journalism & Media Academy of the ÖJC and has been a visiting professor at the German faculty of the Beijing International Studies University (BISU) since 2016.

Turnheim was awarded the professional title of Professor on August 22, 2016.
