Freddy Schauwecker (* 1943 ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , band leader), advertising specialist and author.

Schauwecker comes from a musical family and was enthusiastic about New Orleans jazz from an early age ; In the late 1950s he learned to play the jazz trombone . His role models were Kid Ory and Chris Barber . After leaving school, he completed an advertising training course. After completing his military service in the German Armed Forces, he worked in Düsseldorf for a large English company in the pharmaceutical industry as an advertising manager, then as marketing manager for the communications department of a global American process engineering group .

In 1962 he became active as an amateur musician; he often played initially with Udo Lindenberg , who lived with him for a short time. In 1968 he founded his The Jolly Jazz Orchestra , which still exists today and is dedicated to Dixieland and Swing . Schauwecker performed with this band in New Orleans in 1993 . The band, which after a single (1975) has released fifteen albums and DVDs, also gave guest appearances, including in the Azores , the Canary Islands and China .

In recent years, Schauwecker spoke to musicians and contemporary witnesses of traditional jazz and collected information that he presented in the specialist press and in his book So Was It Real (2013). In 2015 an updated version called Let's go to the very best of Jazz was released. Schauwecker performed with his band in 2014 at Lindenberg's performances in Düsseldorf. Schauwecker's book was published in the third edition under the title Back to the Roots of Jazz: The grandiose stories of the legendary titles in autumn 2019.
