Frederick William True

Frederick William True ( July 8, 1858, Middletown , Connecticut , † June 25, 1914 ) was an American biologist and from 1897 to 1911 the chief curator of biology at the United States National Museum , which is now part of the Smithsonian Institution .

True graduated from New York University in 1878 with a Bachelor of Science degree . He was curator of mammals from 1883 to 1897. His specialty was the whales , the true whales were named after him. He remained in close contact with the Smithsonian Institution from 1881 until his death in 1914.
