Dobra (1943–1945 Doberbühl ) is a city in Poland in the Greater Poland Voivodeship .
geography
The city is located about 60 kilometers northwest of Łódź and 130 kilometers southeast of Poznan . Dobra is about 123 meters above sea level.
history
The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1381. In the year 1392 the place was first called a city. Dobra was a private town laid out under Magdeburg law . In 1521 the first Jews settled in the city. A fire destroyed large parts of the city around 1538. In 1626 a cholera epidemic broke out which killed many residents. Another cholera epidemic followed in 1708. As part of the Second Partition of Poland , the city came under Prussian sovereignty in 1793 . In 1807 the city became part of the Duchy of Warsaw . In 1810 the first elementary school opened in Dobra. Five years later the city became part of the newly formed Congress Poland . After the defeat of the January uprising by Russian troops in 1867 the place lost its city charter . On May 15, 1905, the first Dobra fire brigade began its work. The construction of the parish church was completed in 1912. After the First World War , the city was part of re-establishing Poland and administratively assigned to the Łódź Voivodeship . In September 1939 the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht . On January 21, 1945, the Red Army marched into the city, which subsequently became part of the People's Republic of Poland .
