Frederik Philips

Frederik Philips (born December 1, 1830 in Zaltbommel ; † June 12, 1900 there ) was a Dutch industrialist and banker and a first cousin of Karl Marx .

The fourth son of Lion Philips , he was born into a family who earned their living trading tobacco and manufacturing tobacco products.

With his wife Maria Heyligers, he had ten children, including Gerard (1858–1942) and Anton Philips (1874–1951).

After Gerard founded Philips & Co. in 1891 , Frederik was the most important donor for the first eight years.
