Frederik Willems (2009)

Frederik Willems (born September 8, 1979 in Eeklo ) is a former Belgian cyclist and today's sports director .

Career

In his junior years, Willems won the Seraing-Aken-Seraing race in 2001 and was then stagiair at Mapei-Quick Step , who signed him for 2002. His only success was a stage win in the rather second-rate Cuba Tour . After only one year he switched to the GSII-Team Vlaanderen-T-Interim .

He then joined Chocolade Jacques in 2005 . At the beginning of the 2006 season he won the first stage of the Etoile de Bessèges and took the lead in the overall standings, which he was able to defend to the end. Willems has been driving for the Italian Liquigas team since 2007 . In 2008 he won the three days of de Panne.

At the end of 2014 Willems retired from active cycling and became the assistant sporting director of the Lotto Soudal team .
