Fredholm is a small impact crater in the rugged area to the west of the Mare Crisium . It lies between the striking craters Macrobius in the north and Proclus in the south. The circular, symmetrical formation has a bowl-shaped interior. The inner walls drop evenly towards the center and form a small crater floor in the center with about a quarter of the diameter of the total crater. The smaller Macrobius E leans on its northern edge .
Fredholm was long known as Macrobius' satellite crater called Macrobius D , before it was given its own name in 1976 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
