Proclus is a young impact crater on the moon west of the Mare Crisium on the eastern border of the Palus Somni . It lies south of the terraced Macrobius crater and west-northwest of the flooded Yerkes crater . The foothills called Olivium and Lavinium lie between Proclus and Yerkes.

The crater rim has a polygonal shape reminiscent of a pentagon and does not particularly rise above the surrounding terrain. The crater has a high albedo , which is otherwise only exceeded by the Aristarchus crater .

The crater has a sizeable radiation system that continues for 600 kilometers. The system is asymmetrical, with the largest rays pointing northwest, north-northeast, and northeast. In an arch to the southwest there are no ejected impact debris, which indicates a low impact angle.
