education

Fredrik Lindström studied literature , aesthetics and the history of ideas and completed research training in Nordic languages . He also attended the Poppius School of Journalism .

Lindström began a doctoral thesis on the history of the Swedish language in the Mälar Valley region at Uppsala University , which he abandoned due to his diverse activities in radio and television and as a writer.

activities

Lindström became known as a participant in the entertainment program Hassan (joke calls to randomly selected) and in På minutes (Auf die Minute, a Swedish version of Just a Minute on the BBC ) on Swedish public radio . In the 1990s he appeared as a comedian on the youth broadcaster ZTV ( Tommy på vita duken (Tommy on the screen)) and co-wrote the scripts for the comedy series c / o Segemyhr and Detta har hänt (That happened) for the Swedish one Television and 2001 produced the fictional documentary Harry Victor . He also appeared in the television series Ingesson , Pangbulle and Pentagon or was their program director.

Lindström produced the feature films Vuxna Bäumenkor (Adult People, 1999) and Känd från TV (Known from television, 2001).

In 1999 he also appeared as a stand-up comedian in Stockholm. The CD Matapa (1999) was created from the recordings of these evenings .

Swedish television broadcast its series Värsta språket (The Worst Language) from 2002 to 2003 , which deals with the Swedish language on a popular science level. The series resulted in Lindström's book of the same name, which was published by Albert Bonniers in 2000 . The follow-up to this series is Svenska dialektmysterier (Swedish Dialect Mysteries ), a humorous documentary on various Swedish dialects, which won the Swedish TV award Kristallen in the Infotainment category in 2006 .

The two series not only deal with the language itself, but also ask about the kind of people who speak it and which cultural and historical developments have contributed to what is spoken in Sweden today. Lindström combines his knowledge of language history with his humorous talent , which makes the programs extremely entertaining. He also succeeds in conveying his content in an easily understandable way despite the relatively theoretical subject matter. The same goes for his series Världens modernaste land (The most modern land in the world), which aired in January 2007. In it, Lindström deals with the question of what is Swedish and non-Swedish, what defines the Swedish mentality and how it could have come about. He discusses with historians and ethnologists in the television studio, but also asks foreigners living in Sweden about their impressions. In 2007 the author toured Sweden with a show based on this latest television series.

Since 2009, Lindström has been a "referee" in Swedish television's "På spåret" entertainment program, which is based on global general knowledge and has enjoyed long-standing popularity with a broad Swedish television audience.

Lindström's various books (see below) deal with the cultural phenomena and quirks of Sweden, and the language books in particular have become a sales success with his compatriots. So far only Where, please, is the real life in German? published.
