freeX was a German-language computer magazine with a focus on the practical use of free Unix systems ( Linux , various BSD and Unix derivatives). Issued freeX from C L Verlag in Böblingen .

Each issue was accompanied by a CD-ROM (since issue 1/2007 a DVD-ROM) with one or more Unix operating systems - partly for installation, partly as a live system  - and application programs. The magazine, founded in 1998, has been published every two months since 1999, at the beginning of even months.

FreeX was discontinued in October 2012 and incorporated into Admin Magazine , which in turn was incorporated into IT Administrator in April 2014 . The use of free software got further out of focus every time. In the meantime, “products being tested” or “practical workshops” on predominantly commercial products seem to be the focus.
