The pool Oberspree even Flußbadeanstalt Adlershof , pool Adlershof and light and air bath Oberspree was a pool on the River Spree in the Köllnischen Heide . The outdoor pool belonged initially to the municipality of Adlershof , later to Berlin-Niederschöneweide .

history

founding

The outdoor pool was built in 1913 on a 2820 m² area in the Köllnische Heide . The Adlershof community leased the area on which the outdoor pool was built from the Prussian forest administration. The construction of the swimming pool cost 2216 marks . The outdoor pool was opened in the same year as the Adlershof outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was continuously expanded in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s. Various swimming clubs have settled in the east and in the immediate vicinity of the outdoor pool.

Assignment to Adlershof and Schöneweide

According to the permanent forest contract from 1915, the open-air swimming pool was only partially in the municipality of Adlershof, the other part was in the municipality of Niederschöneweide . With the establishment of Greater Berlin in 1920, Adlershof and Niederschöneweide and thus the outdoor pool belonged to the Berlin districts of Köpenick and Treptow . Around 1930 the border between the Berlin districts of Adlershof and Niederschöneweide was determined in such a way that the outdoor pool was now completely in Niederschöneweide. During the same period the outdoor pool was renamed the Oberspree outdoor pool.

Post-war and GDR times

The outdoor pool was partially destroyed in World War II. It was then restored and expanded. Until the 1950s, the outdoor pool had been expanded so that it now had an area of 40,500 m². On July 2, 1960, the highest number of bathers (9553 bathers) visited the outdoor pool in one day. In 1969 a promenade was added to the outdoor pool. In the 1980s the operation was stopped due to the poor water quality of the Spree.

Closure and renaturation

After the fall of the Wall , a legal dispute arose as to whether hotels with a marina could be built on the site of the outdoor pool . After the disputes were over, it was reopened as the Oberspree light and air bath. Only about 500 visitors came to the light and air bath each year. The light and air bath was closed in 1995. In 2001 the area belonging to the Köllnische Heide was handed over to the Berlin Forests . By 2003, fences and buildings were removed. The forest was reforested by 2009 .

location

The outdoor pool was located in the immediate vicinity of the Spindlersfeld plant of the laundry company W. Spindler .

The “Allotment Garden Am Freibad Oberspree” and the “Freibadweg” can still be found near the former open-air swimming pool.
