The freedom movement ( Georgian თავისუფლება / Tawissupleba ) is a right-wing conservative party in Georgia . It was founded in January 2004. Its chairman is the historian and Iranist Konstantine Gamsachurdia , eldest son of the former Georgian President Sviad Gamsachurdia .

The freedom movement wants to prepare Georgia for accession to the European Union . She pleads for the territorial unity of Georgia. The party achieved an official vote of 4.39% in the 2004 elections and failed to pass the seven percent hurdle. In April, she filed a vain complaint with the Georgian Supreme Court over alleged election rigging.

The party's activities are low. For the parliamentary by-elections on October 1, 2005, the freedom movement formed an electoral alliance with the Conservative Party , the Georgian Workers' Party and the parties of the Right Opposition .

The party chairman is Konstantine Gamsachurdia . He lived in exile in Switzerland from 1992 to 2006 . In the Georgian parliamentary elections on March 28, 2004, he led the party list in first place. Since February 2006 he has been leading the freedom movement full-time. In December 2006 he accused the government of criminally prosecuting his party's members.
