The Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium is a high school in Betzdorf , Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The higher boys' school in Betzdorf was opened on May 13, 1901 with 53 pupils in the sixth, fifth and fourth classes. In 1904 the two boys' schools in Betzdorf and Kirchen merged to form the Betzdorf / Kirchen Progymnasium. In 1906 they moved into a new school building. In 1914 the first Abitur examination took place. In 1929 a new wing was added.

After the damage caused by the Second World War had been repaired, the school was inaugurated in 1952 as the Betzdorf / Sieg New Language High School . In 1963 a mathematical and natural science branch was added. On December 18, the name was changed to Staatliches Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium at an inauguration ceremony .

In 1975 the Abitur system was changed to the Mainz study level (MSS). In 1989 the name was finally changed to Freiherr-vom-Stein Gymnasium Betzdorf-Kirchen . In 1998 the school became a UNESCO project school . The Unesco certificate was presented on July 3, 1998 during a school festival.

On the night of August 21-22, 2008, the roof of the older of the two gyms burned out completely. The auditorium was not affected. The new IT room in the hall building, which had only been set up a few weeks earlier, was completely lost, but the school building itself remained undamaged.

Personalities

The cabaret artist Matthias Deutschmann went to school here, the professional soccer player Sascha Mockenhaupt (SV Wehen Wiesbaden) and the Bishop of Limburg Georg Bätzing . The high school graduates also include the journalist Christian Lindner , editor-in-chief of the Rhein-Zeitung , and the writer Katharina Schultens .
