history
By resolution of the Reichsschulkonferenz, the former elementary school Eltville was founded in 1920 as a forerunner of today's Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule. In 1946 the city decided to build a new school, which began in 1950 on Adolfstrasse and was not completed until 1959. On the occasion of the 200th birthday of the Baron von und zum Stein , the school was given its current name in 1957. At the beginning of the school year 1964/65, the previous eight grades comprehensive elementary school was extended by the additional ninth compulsory school year and as part of the Hamburg Agreement for secondary school converted. This was accompanied by the separation of the special school from the elementary school, so that on April 1, 1964, the Eltville special school became independent as the Peter Jordan School. In 1970 the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule got its own gym. In 1981 the school set up a small class for children with behavioral problems. Four years later there was a pre-class for school-age but not yet ready-to-go school students. In 2005 the secondary school was merged with the Walluftal school at the Walluf site, which was also dissolved three years later; the main school education of the entire Rheingau was merged in the reform school Oestrich-Winkel . Since 2005 the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule has been a pure elementary school.

Since the 2007/2008 school year, the school has had the seal of approval of a "gifted school". Outpatient language therapy classes have been part of the specialty school since 2012.
